Reignite Your Sacred Dreams with “Oprah’s All Time Favourite Guest”

Rooted in humble beginnings, Dr. Tererai Trent grew up in a cattle-herding family in rural Zimbabwe, in a country known as Rhodesia under colonial rule, where cultural practices and a war that liberated her country charted the course of her life. Despite facing many obstacles, she never lost sight of her dreams for an education. She buried her dreams in a can, and two decades later, she had achieved them all.

Today, Dr. Trent is one of the most internationally recognized voices for quality education and women’s empowerment, a Global Ambassador for Education and Peace and is one of 10 women - alongside Oprah Winfrey, Jane Goodall and Cate Blanchett - honored by Australian sculptors Gillie and Marc for their Statues for Equality Project in New York City.

On Sunday 6 October,  the Western Australian community had the opportunity to hear Dr. Trent - distinguished as Oprah’s “All-Time Favourite Guest” - at a one day only workshop 'Reignite Your Sacred Dreams' event at Curtin University’s St George’s Terrace Campus. Turban Chopsticks was so honoured to sponsor the event with a delicious grazing spread and drinks table.

Attended by up to 70 community members, business owners and thought leaders, the workshop was focused on how dreams can come true, and how we can make them happen!

Dr. Trent was joined by other Australian success stories - including kikki.K founder, Kristina Karlsson - to encourage Western Australians to dream big and how to reignite and chase those dreams in a workshop style event.

A portion of the proceeds from the workshop will be funding access to quality education for children in rural Zimbabwe and the 12 schools and 6,400 students that The Tererai Trent International Foundation supports.

“At the age of 18, as a young mother without a high school diploma, one of the most profound words said to me was ‘If you believe in your dreams, they are achievable,’” said Dr. Trent.

“The power of having dreams and believing in them is profound and has changed the trajectory of my life. It’s unbelievable that I have taken my dreams from where I had buried them in my rural village in Zimbabwe and to impact girls, women, men and families around the world.”

“I was very pleased to be able to join Australian successful dreamers such as Kristina Karlsson in Perth to share my story and the lessons I have learned with the Western Australian community on how to dream with purpose.”

The event also featured a special guest presentation by kikki.K’s Kristina Karlsson, author of Your Dream Life Starts Here, who guided attendees through a beautiful exercise to discover and write down a list of potential dreams to chase.

Event organiser and local business owner - Joan Dellavalle - commented that being able to bring Dr. Trent and Ms. Karlsson to Perth for the one day workshop was a great coup for the State.

“With Perth entrepreneurship growing rapidly in our State, I thought it was important to access the stories, valuable lessons and advice that inspirational, successful people such as Dr. Trent and Ms. Karlsson can give to our community,” commented Ms. Dellavalle.

“Bringing someone who is distinguished by Oprah as her ‘All-Time Favourite’ speaker is just the beginning of what I would like to be accessible by the people of Perth.”
